Graphic Design

Posted February 19, 2010 in SOS Design, 4 Comments

Design is a creative problem-solving process that overlaps other disciplines such as engineering and applied arts.
Graphic design is the branch of design dealing with visual communication. It encapsulates several other artistic and professional disciplines such as visual arts and computing. While the techniques used in graphic design are most often than not the same, its applications can be as heterogeneous as digital interfaces and apparels.

Obviously, every branch has its own attributes and properties. Designing for print is anything but similar to designing for digital media. And that’s just one variable of the design equation.

Last week Furfox was officially released in several places around the web, namely Macthemes, DeviantArt and IconPaper!
So far the feedback was very positive, sometimes just plain flattery even:

“Possibly one of the best ive seen in a while IMO!!”
“This makes me wish I used FireFox”
“This is the best icon work I’ve seen since Dave Lanham and Jonas Rask.”

As far as feedback goes, this is overwhelming; even though I am not quite satisfied with my work, yet. Freelance-wise I am still working on illustrations for Kai as well as a couple visual identity projects (more details to come).

Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement!

Google Visual Identity

I am not a big fan of the famed Google logo; the colors, shadow and emboss effects are just plain ugly and outdated. However, it is the recent visual direction Google is taking that really caught my attention. Is it only me, or do all recent Google logos look as if they came straight from Redmond?

First was the Google Chrome and Google Wave logos, featuring four colors suspiciously similar to the ones used in the Windows logo, then the Nexus One “X”, and now the Google Buzz bubble… I understand that Google are aiming to bring down the Redmond giant with Chrome OS, but is there any need to go as far as brawling for the same four colors??

Whether I am missing something, or Google are in serious need to get a visual identity overhaul. Somebody has got to tell them that there more than four colors in the spectrum…

Context

Apple have finally released their long due tablet. Aside the marketing challenges Apple will have to face, it is now the wave of discontent over missing key features that the Cupertino company will have to placate within in the upcoming months.

Concept

An iPad icon that comes in three variations. I would like to thank Thyraz for granting me the permission to use his iPhone icons in my design.
